Building in Public
There’s something liberating about building products without a rigid roadmap. You start with an idea, ship it quickly, learn from real users, and iterate. That’s the philosophy behind NimbleFlux.
What is NimbleFlux?
NimbleFlux is an independent company focused on developing products that solve real problems. It’s not a startup in the traditional sense-no venture capital, no hockey-stick growth targets, no exit strategy. Just a commitment to building useful tools and sharing the journey.
The Name
The name combines two concepts that reflect the approach:
- Nimble - Quick to adapt, light on its feet, ready to pivot when needed
- Flux - Constant change, flow, the natural state of software development
Together, they represent a methodology: stay flexible, move fast, and embrace change. There’s also a subtle nod to my name woven in.
The Philosophy: Fail Fast, Iterate
Traditional product development often involves months of planning before writing a single line of code. NimbleFlux takes the opposite approach:
- Ship early - Get something working, even if it’s rough
- Learn from users - Real feedback beats assumptions every time
- Iterate quickly - Improve based on what actually matters
- Repeat - Build the next thing
This isn’t about releasing low-quality software. It’s about validating ideas quickly and investing effort where it counts.
Products That Improve Each Other
A key principle at NimbleFlux is that products should make each other better. When you build multiple tools, they can share learnings, components, and infrastructure.
This isn’t about feature bloat-it’s about creating a cohesive ecosystem where improvements to one product benefit the others.
Current Products
Wayli - A privacy-first, self-hosted location tracking application. Track your travels, analyze trips, and visualize adventures-all while keeping your data completely under your control.
Fluxbase - A lightweight, single-binary Backend-as-a-Service. All the essential backend services (REST API, authentication, realtime, storage, edge functions) in one Go binary, with PostgreSQL as the only dependency.
The relationship between them is symbiotic: Wayli runs on Fluxbase, which means every improvement to Fluxbase directly benefits Wayli users. And when Wayli encounters edge cases or performance challenges, those insights flow back into Fluxbase.
What’s Ahead
NimbleFlux is just getting started. The roadmap isn’t set in stone-because setting it in stone would contradict the entire philosophy. But here’s what’s on the horizon:
- More products - Ideas are plenty; the challenge is choosing which to pursue
- Continuous improvement - Existing products will keep getting better
- Open source contributions - Both Wayli and Fluxbase are open source
- Learning in public - Sharing what works and what doesn’t
Follow Along
If this approach resonates with you-if you believe in shipping early, learning fast, and building tools that matter-then follow along. Try the products, share feedback, and watch as NimbleFlux evolves.
The journey is just beginning.
